Tucked between <strong>Via di Mezzo<\/strong> and <strong>Via dei Pilastri<\/strong>, this little building is full of charm and history. Its unique shape, with a corner that ends like a broken spur, immediately catches the eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-a-sacred-space-with-deep-roots\">1. A Sacred Space with Deep Roots<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Oratory was built in the <strong>early 1400s<\/strong>. It was home to a local lay group called the <strong>Compagnia di San Michele della Pace<\/strong>, also known as the <strong>Compagnia del Sacramento<\/strong>. They met here to pray and support each other in faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One side of the building, along <strong>Via di Mezzo<\/strong>, once had a stone plaque. It marked a restoration done in <strong>January 1559<\/strong>, showing how much the community cared for this sacred place. One of them, dated <strong>1473<\/strong>, shows a <strong>chalice<\/strong>, a clear reference to the <strong>Eucharist<\/strong>. The design is <strong>Renaissance in style<\/strong>, and it has likely been retouched over time to protect its details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you walk past on <strong>Via di Mezzo<\/strong>, keep an eye out for a small but touching detail: the <strong>alms slot<\/strong>. This tiny opening in the wall was once used for collecting donations.
