Selfie Mishap Damages Priceless Painting at Uffizi Gallery<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Selfie Gone Wrong Uffizi<\/strong> \u2013 a phrase that now echoes through the halls of one of Florence\u2019s most prestigious museums. Earlier today, Saturday, June 21st, a tourist accidentally caused serious concern at the Uffizi Gallery when he fell into a 17th-century masterpiece while trying to take a selfie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred during the popular exhibition “Florence and Europe. Arts of the 18th Century at the Uffizi,”<\/em> which is currently being hosted at the world-famous Uffizi Galleries<\/strong>. Among the featured artworks is “Ferdinando de’ Medici”<\/strong>, a remarkable 1690 painting by Anton Domenico Gabbiani<\/strong>, normally housed in Palazzo Pitti<\/strong>. Unfortunately, this historic canvas has now suffered a tear near the right foot of the Grand Prince of Tuscany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Happened During the Incident?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to initial reports from the museum\u2019s management, the tourist lost his balance and fell onto the painting while attempting to take a selfie. Apparently, he tripped on one of the floor-mounted distancing barriers, which are meant to protect the artworks from exactly this kind of close contact. As a result, the damage was immediate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selfie Gone Wrong Uffizi<\/strong> quickly became the underlying theme of the day. Thankfully, museum curators were quick to assess the situation and confirmed that the damage, while visually disturbing, is not structurally severe<\/strong>. In fact, restorers have already evaluated the tear and are confident that the painting will be fully restored and back on display within a few days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
