This historic artifact was originally positioned above the houses of the Cerretani family, who owned properties in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the early 18th century, Archbishop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholic-hierarchy.org\/bishop\/bgher.html\">Tommaso della Gherardesca<\/a> acquired all the old Cerretani houses to construct the Archiepiscopal Seminary. Unfortunately, the Archbishop passed away before the project was completed, leaving the task to his successor, Archbishop Giuseppe Maria Martelli. The Christ Tabernacle on Via dei Cerretani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over time, the seminary building proved too small to accommodate the growing number of seminarians. As a result, the seminary was relocated to the Cistercian convent at Cestello, where it remains today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-unique-design-of-the-tabernacle\"><strong>The Unique Design of the Tabernacle<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tabernacle, with its open ovoid shape and beveled frames, houses a stunning bust of the <em>\u201cRedentore\u201d<\/em> (Redeemer), supported by a cloud with three cherubs. This masterpiece was created by sculptor Giovan Battista Caccini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The design and naming of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.italynotes.com\/stories\/il-redentore\">Redentore<\/a> indicate that it was crafted after 1576, inspired by the Church of the Redeemer (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.italynotes.com\/stories\/il-redentore\">Chiesa del Cristo Redentore<\/a><\/em>) in Venice. That church was inaugurated on September 4, 1576, as a votive offering to end the plague in <a href=\"https:\/\/bestfreetour.com\/2025\/02\/12\/5-must-see-attractions-in-venice-italy\/\">Venice.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-preservation-through-the-ages\"><strong>Preservation Through the Ages<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Christ Tabernacle on Via dei Cerretani, despite changes in ownership of the surrounding properties, the tabernacle has remained in its original location, a testament to its cultural and historical significance.
