Florence also participates in the European Night of Museums 2024, Saturday 18 May, to enhance the artistic and cultural heritage thanks to special initiatives, guided tours, presentations and evening openings for free or at a symbolic price. The event is sponsored by UNESCO, the Council of Europe and ICOM, the International Council of Museums. This year the Museum Night coincides with the International Museum Day organized by ICOM. The theme for this edition focuses on education and research.
Friday 17 May: 3 museums of the University of Florence free
The University of Florence is celebrating Museum Night in advance: on the eve of International Museum Day, it opens the doors of 3 museums for free during the evening. On Friday 17 May the Museum of Geology and Paleontology, the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology and the Botanical Garden (Giardino dei Semplici) will be exceptionally open until 8pm and from 5pm onwards entry will be free of charge. Last admission is at 7.15pm.
The Florence Cathedral Museum is free for Museum Night 2024
The Museo dell’Opera del Duomo of Florence will be open for Museum Night and International Museum Day, Saturday 18 May from 6pm to midnight, with free entry for everyone. Last admission is at 11pm and booking is not necessary. For the occasion, on social channels and the media, the public will also be able to preview the images of the Museum’s Sala del Paradiso taken for the first time with a drone by photographer Fabio Muzzi.
