How did the painting get back?

Peruggia was not a major suspect in the investigation, despite the fact that the police visited his residence and questioned every member of the Louvre staff. Even the painting concealed in his apartment went unnoticed by the police. Even the room where the painting was concealed was where the detective prepared his report. Additionally, Peruggia’s fingerprints were not taken by the police, despite the fact that they were taken by every museum employee.

Peruggia concealed the painting in his apartment for two years. After that, he went back to Italy and stored it in his flat in Florence. He eventually lost patience and was apprehended when he got in touch with Alfredo Geri, the owner of an art gallery in Florence. The Mona Lisa was discovered beneath Peruggia’s bed after the police were notified and he was taken into custody. The Mona Lisa became the most well-known piece of art in the world when it was brought back to the Louvre in 1913.
