Calcio storico fiorentino, often referred to as calcio in livrea or calcio in costume, is an ancient football variant that has its roots in medieval Italy.[1] The sport is said to have originated in Florence’s Piazza Santa Croce. There it was called the giuoco del calcio fiorentino (“Florentine kick game”) or just calcio, which is currently the Italian term for association football. It’s possible that the game originated as a harpastum resurgence, a Roman pastime.

Even though it has had many mishaps throughout the ages, Brunelleschi’s dome’s golden ball has never failed to put on a spectacular performance. Andrea di Verrocchio, a goldsmith and artist, created the initial design and oversaw its construction beginning in 1468.

At the corner of via S.Gallo with via degli Arazzieri we find a small church initially called S.Salvatore, then became the oratory of the Congrega of Jesus Salvatore around 1311, when the, bishop Antonio d’Orso and some Florentine priests had simultaneously A vision in which Jesus dressed as a pilgrim urged them to found a hoped called “Domus dei”, where all the priests of the surrounding area or foreigners were welcomed who, out of necessity, should stop in Florence.

The Bardi family takes its name from Bardo, an abbreviation of Berardo. They settled in Florence in the area of the Oltrarno where the homonymous street is now located, which in those days was called a pitigloso village due to the misery and dirt of its inhabitants.

Florence also participates in the European Night of Museums 2024, Saturday 18 May, to enhance the artistic and cultural heritage thanks to special initiatives, guided tours, presentations and evening openings for free or at a symbolic price. The event is sponsored by UNESCO, the Council of Europe and ICOM, the International Council of Museums. This year the Museum Night coincides with the International Museum Day organized by ICOM. The theme for this edition focuses on education and research.
