Florence Welcomes a New Modern Art Museum in December 2025

The news had been circulating for some time, but now it’s official: Florence will soon have a new contemporary and modern art museum. The museum, backed by renowned art dealer, collector, and gallerist Roberto Casamonti, is set to open by December 2025 in Palazzo San Giorgio on Lungarno Serristori.

This 3,000-square-meter space will house Casamonti’s offices, his son’s architectural studio (led by Marco Casamonti, responsible for the renovations), and, most importantly, his prestigious art collection, built over six decades.

A Collection Spanning From Rosai to Warhol

Casamonti’s collection, one of the most significant in Italy, includes masterpieces by Lucio Fontana, Giorgio de Chirico, Andy Warhol, and Tony Cragg. It all began with a portrait by Ottone Rosai of Casamonti’s father and has grown into one of the most impressive private collections of modern and contemporary art.

Currently, due to space limitations, only part of the collection is displayed at Palazzo Bartolini Salimbeni on Via Tornabuoni, where Casamonti inaugurated his first exhibition space in 2018. However, with this new museum, visitors will finally have access to a comprehensive view of his extensive collection.
