Visiting the Davanzati Chapel inside the church of S.Trinita, above the funerary monument of Giuliano Niccolò Davanzati we see a lunette with two angels and a Madonna and Child in terracotta. Until ten years ago, the terracotta work was located in a particular place, on the north side of the church bell tower. In the 19th century it was positioned on the bell tower, we don’t know the reason, but we know that the bad weather of about two centuries had put a strain on the ceramic element which had lost almost all its colour, thanks to a small roof the upper part had minor damage damage to those below. The terracotta is attributed to Donatello and thanks to a restoration by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure it was possible to see that the entire image was painted white to imitate marble. A copy was placed on the bell tower in memory of the position it had assumed over the last two hundred years.
